
Melanie Magisos, Executive Director

Melanie Magisos is one of the founders of the Center for Image Processing in
Education (CIPE) and has managed professional development workshops for
educators since 1990. Melanie was co-director of the
Hands-on Image Processing project, funded by the Annenberg/CPB Math and Science
Project, which developed an award winning multimedia package for professional
development of math, science and technology teachers. She is currently the Principal
Investigator of CIPE's Advanced Technological Education project. Melanie holds an M.A. degree in Film
and a B.A. in English from Ohio University.
Don Adams, Project Director, Advanced Technological Education Project

Don Adams earned his B.S. degree in Geology at New Mexico Institute of Mining and
Technology, and an M.S. in Geoscience at the University of Arizona. He was a Science
educator for Tucson Unified School District for 22 years, during which time he was
Department Chair over Science, Math and Technology for three years. Don has
used image processing extensively in his classroom since 1991, and has delivered
numerous professional development workshops and national conference presentations
for CIPE.
Deborah Alongi, Director, Instructional Materials Development

Deborah Alongi received her B.A. in Science and Education from Prescott College in
1990 and an M.S. in Biology from the University of Arizona in 1996. She taught
Biology and Chemistry for four years at Mountain View High School in Tucson,
Arizona, where she conceived and developed a new Genetics and Biotechnology course
and took a leadership role in the redesign of the school's biology course offerings. For
her research project and thesis, she performed a molecular genetic analysis of an
endangered plant species, producing part of a report to the Arizona Department of Fish
and Wildlife. In 1994, Deborah began work with the Image Processing for Teaching project
at the University of Arizona where she authored many of the lessons on HIP® Biology 1
and HIP® Biology 2.
Marie P. LaVigne, Director, Outreach and Marketing Services

Marie P. LaVigne received her B.S. in Recreation and Park Administration from the
University of Minnesota in 1982. She holds over 16 years experience as a marketing
communications specialist and consultant with special focus on the development of
start-up ventures, and previously owned River of January Imports, a wholesale and
direct mail business. As an independent consultant and trainer, she worked with
individuals and businesses to develop new ventures, marketing plans and
communication vehicles. In addition, she has taught professional development and
computer courses to adult learners, and has been a presenter at a national women's
conference. Marie manages the marketing of CIPE professional
development workshops, instructional materials, and print and web-based
communication vehicles.
Tana Leutung, Assistant, Outreach and Marketing Services

Tana Leutung received her B.S. in Broadcasting from Northwest Missouri State University in1997. During her college career, she produced and anchored local newscasts for Morning Edition on KXCV-FM, a public radio station in Missouri, and managed the university's educational cable television station. Tana interned at Southwest Publishing Company as a sales associate for their educational materials. Tana assists in the sales and marketing of CIPE professional development workshops, instructional materials, and print communication vehicles.
Carla McAuliffe, Intructional Materials Developer

Carla McAuliffe received her B.S. in Cellular and Developmental Biology and her
M.Ed. in Secondary Education from the University of Arizona. She has taught life
science, physical science, earth science, and biology. She has ten years teaching
experience with junior high, high school, and adult learners. Carla is pursuing
coursework toward her doctorate in Learning and Instructional Technology at Arizona
State University. Carla's professional
skills include: designing and conducting formative and summative evaluations; designing
and developing instructional materials and training; and computer programming
experience utilizing spreadsheets, databases, and hypertext environments.
Rebecca Million, Evaluation and Fund Development Specialist

Rebecca Million assists with evaluation, fund development and writing. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Vermont College/Norwich University and has taught at Vermont College, Pima College and the Extended University/University of Arizona. She has been a reporter for the Arizona Daily Star and was the Literary Manager/Dramaturg at Arizona Theatre Company, Arizona's state theatre. She is also a playwright whose work has been performed in Tucson, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
Steven Moore, Director, Evaluation Services

Steven Moore holds a Ph.D. in Renewable Natural Resources Studies and Sociology
from the University of Arizona. He has taught environmental studies, human biology,
environmental management, sociology, and outdoor recreation management at the
University of Arizona, Pima Community College, and St. Lawrence University. He
has served as the project director and evaluator for National Science Foundation
programs in mathematics and science education, professional development for
teachers, and development of minority participation in science careers. He also has
conducted environmental and sociological research for the U.S. Department of
Defense, Bureau
of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and the University
of Arizona.
Kristine L. Rees, Manager, Business Operations

Kris Rees holds a B.S. in Public Management from the University of Arizona. After
graduation, she relocated to Washington, D.C., where she served as a program director
for a national rehabilitation organization, and managed the information services and
conference programs for a national volunteer organization. Kris also directed the
activities of a parent-run preschool for several years in a volunteer capacity, and served
as an intern for Congressman Mo Udall. As CIPE's Manager of Business Operations, she oversees
CIPE's day-to-day operations, including administration, finance and logistics. She also
serves as CIPE's Corporate Secretary/Treasurer. Kris joined the staff in
November 1995 as CIPE's first full-time employee.
Michelle Sarkozi, Staff Assistant, Business Operations

Michelle Sarkozi received her Associate of Arts degree in Administrative Assistant from Chapparal College in 1996. She has over 16 years of experience in retail customer service and is currently working on her B.S. degree in Business Administration at Chapparal College. Michelle assists with all functions of CIPE's day-to-day business operations, including customer service and maintenance of CIPE's database.
