Animal Hands
Animal Hands is an introductory Biology lesson. You will use image processing to examine x-rays of hands, wings, hooves and flippers to compare their structures and functions.
Image Processing allows you to change the way the information contained in the x-rays is displayed. You will use a variety of techniques to study the detail in the images.
Travel USA
Travel USA teaches coordinate systems and measurement techniques. This lesson can be used in a mathematics class, or to teach measurement skills in science, technology or geography.
Students play the role of a travel agent, planning unique experiences for customers. After using coordinates to locate and label major cities the agent solves travel problems by measuring distance and area using a variety of tools and techniques.
Eruption Plumes of Io
Io, one of Jupiter's moons, is famous for its active volcanoes. This lesson reinforces the idea that the laws of motion and gravitation are, indeed, universal.
Students work with digital images radioed to Earth by the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft to enhance and measure Io's fountain-like plumes. Using their measurements, they can determine the ejection velocity of the plume material. Students also look for changes in the plumes' activity over time.
